Like most people, Refilwe Motloung, who was raised in Potchefstroom, says for the longest time, she unintentionally made things about herself and never really aspired to give back.
That all changed when she randomly decided to volunteer to clean up at a local school in Ikageng. She felt a shift in her heart.
“It felt wonderful to give back and put a smile on people’s faces,” she said.
From that moment, Motloung would go around doing random acts of kindness. “We started by giving clothes and sanitary towels to those in need during Women’s Month.
We ended the month by doing voluntary work at Thakaneng Child and Youth Care Centre and Ikaya la Bantwana,” Motloung explained.
To carry on in the spirit of giving, Motloung’s NPO, Dikgosatsana Foundation, hopes to give back to the community on a larger scale.
On Saturday, 24 September, the NPO is having a Heritage Motivational Fun Day at the Thakaneng Child and Youth Care Centre in the industrial area.
“The aim is to make the day about the children,” Motloung said. “We want to continue putting smiles on children’s faces and touching their lives.”
Although the event is in three days, the NPO needs the community’s help to ensure the day runs smoothly.
“We’re still looking for sponsors or people to join the initiative,” she explained.
The programme for the day will include special guests to motivate the kids.
They will also be a part of the entertainment.
The event will start at 9:00 and will be divided into three parts, namely exercises, formal presentations and entertainment.
“We are doing this to take part in building a healthier, more vibrant community,” Motloung added.
So far, Ntombi Koloti, an ambassador of Uhuru school shoes, has offered to donate shoes for the children. If you wish to lend a helping hand, contact Refilwe on 066 485 6828 or email dikgosatsana.foundation@gmail.com.
