Jar of Hope-project aims to feed those in need

The content of the jar is added to boiled water and cooked to make a nutritious soup. One jar can provide a meal to 4 to 8 people.

The King Edward Private School is giving back to the community this July through the Jar of Hope-project which aims to provide soup and non-perishable food for the elderly.

The Jar of Hope community project is a 67-day initiative where non-perishable foods are collected and distributed. The empty glass jar (bottle) is used to contain ingredients for a hearty winter soup.

The content of the jar is added to boiled water and cooked to make a nutritious soup. One jar can provide a meal to 4 to 8 people.

During 2022, 110 jars were filled with this project and this year King Edward Private School aims to feed even more people in the community.

Currently, the school requires the following ingredients. They have enough jars.

• Rice
• Soup mix
• Lentils
• Stock Cubes
• Soup powder
• Soya Mince

Donations can be delivered to the school at 234 Walter Sisulu Ave.

The centre manager, Petro Schlebusch, can also be contacted on 073 039 7416.

King Edward Private School will distribute the filled jars and collected foods during SASSA
payment day 2 August and 4 August 2023.
