Rain halts planned electricity outage

The J.B. Marks municipality has confirmed that Eskom are forced to reschedule the planned repair of a transformer, which could have lead to a 33 hour power outage.

Rain has had the final say regarding the scheduled electricity outage that was supposed to take place in Potchefstroom today (Tuesday, 7 November) and tomorrow (Wednesday, 8 November).

The J.B. Marks municipality has confirmed that Eskom are forced to reschedule the planned repair of a transformer, which could have lead to a 33 hour power outage. This is due to persistent ongoing rain that has fell in Potch since 06:00 this morning.

Residents of Potchefstroom, Promosa, Mohadin, Ikageng Proper, and Extension Areas would have been affected by the outage.

“We received the information this morning. As such, the planned power outage for today has been cancelled. The planned outage that is set to start on Thursday, 9 November 2023, and terminate on Friday, 10 November will go forward as planned in order to repair transformers at the Potch DSĀ  Substation,” stated J.B. Marks municipal spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite.

The plan for the initial outage is that the power could be interrupted for a total of 33 hours. This was due to a transformer that had to be oiled and repairs. The wet conditions though does not make repairs conducive.
