Project “Robocop” suspects face court for bail hearings

Nineteen suspects involved in Project "Robocop" appeared in court for bail hearings, with only one granted bail under strict conditions. The investigation, which has led to 22 arrests, is ongoing as authorities work to uncover the full extent of the alleged criminal activities.

In the latest proceedings of Project “Robocop,” 19 suspects appeared in court on Thursday, May 16, and Friday, May 17, 2024, for bail application. This high-profile operation has seen numerous arrests in recent weeks, and the court’s decisions on bail are being closely watched.

Only one accused, Itseng Mirriam Mavuma, was granted bail of R10,000. Mavuma’s release comes with stringent conditions: she must attend all court proceedings, refrain from interfering with witnesses or tampering with state investigations, surrender her passport, report to the Huhudi police station every Friday between 06:00 and 18:00, and avoid committing any schedule 1 offenses while on bail.
Menzi Moses Baard was denied bail, reflecting the court’s stringent stance on the matter.

The following suspects are scheduled to return to court for their bail application  on Wednesday, May 22, and Friday, May 24, 2024: Mooketsi Mavuma, Bhekimuzi Mawela, Samuel Pholo, Vuyani Mabeca, Mathe Konyane, Simane Mosime, Lebogang Maruapula, Jappie De Beer, Tshepiso De Beer, Koketso Tladi, Israel Motlashuping, Immanuel Makoloi, Ratselane Kaweng, Kleinjan Yman, and Joseph Olivier.

Additionally, several suspects have individual court appearances scheduled. Vuyani Mabeca will appear in Wolmaransstad on Tuesday, May 21, and Wednesday, May 22, 2024. Tshepiso De Beer is set to appear in the Klerksdorp Regional Court on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Sibusiso Mahuza will face the court in Lichtenburg on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Bhekimuzi Mawela, who has already been denied bail, is expected in the Ficksburg Magistrates’ Court in the Free State on Monday, May 20, 2024.

The number of suspects arrested in connection with Project “Robocop” has increased to 22, following the detention of four additional individuals between Monday, May 6, and Monday, May 13, 2024, in Wolmaransstad and Klerksdorp.

As investigations continue, authorities remain focused on uncovering the full extent of the criminal activities and ensuring that justice is served.
