Settlement without water for three weeks

Other problems that the residents are experiencing, have been reported to the municipality.

New Dassie, a settlement between Dassierand and Promosa, which is now home to the previous residents of Moooibank, has not received water from the municipality in the last three weeks.

Charles Lekgetho, a resident and community leader, says that it has always been a fight to get the municipality to send out water tankers to supply them with water, but it is the longest that the community has gone without water.

“We have people here that need to take medication, elderly people and children that need to go to school. Children can’t attend school due to not being able to wash themselves or their uniforms.”

About 95% of the resident of the settlement are unemployed and have to live off social grants, which makes it impossible for them to be able to buy water at shops. The settlement is also far from any shops and residents have to walk far in order to get water.

Charles continues to say that the residents have been moved from Mooibank to New Dassie in 2023.

“At least in Mooibank, we didn’t have these water issues. We have a Jojo tank that can also be installed, which will bring huge relief.”

According to Charles, they have contacted the municipality numerous times without any success.

An inquiry was made by the Herald to the municipality and we are still awaiting feedback.
