Two Suspects in court following double murder
Two men will appear in the Zeerust Magistrate’s Court after a deadly shooting on the R49 left two dead and several injured.

Two men, aged 29 and 33, are expected to appear in the Zeerust Magistrate’s Court on September 15. they are charged with two counts of murder, five of attempted murder and one of defeating the ends of justice.
The suspects were arrested after handing themselves over to police. A 9mm pistol, magazine and five rounds of ammunition were confiscated during the arrest.
According to Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, police spokesperson, the charges relate to a shooting incident that took place at around 03:30 on September 12. Officers on patrol responded to reports of gunfire along the R49 (Gaborone/Zeerust) road near Mokgola village.
On arrival, authorities discovered the bodies of two men with gunshot wounds inside a grey Ford Ranger. Three other passengers – two women and a man – sustained serious injuries, while two others managed to survive the attack.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear. However, police say they are investigating possible links to illegal mining activities in Mmasebudule village, outside Zeerust.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
