Video: Mechanical breakdown at Potchefstroom water treatment plant

Repairs are to commence today after the correct spare parts have been sourced.

A Mechanical breakdown has occurred at the Lakeside water treatment plant in Potchefstroom.

Jeanette Tshite, municipal spokesperson, says pump 3 at Phase 1 and Phase 2 experienced a mechanical failure on Monday.

“The maintenance team is currently sourcing the required spare parts, and repair work is scheduled to commence this morning, January 27.”

As a result of the breakdown, water supply interruptions are being experienced, affecting the Eesterandjies Reservoirs and all Ikageng Extension areas.

Tshite continues to say two municipal water tankers have been dispatched to provide interim water supply assistance to the affected communities.

“The municipality sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused and appreciates the cooperation of residents while the matter is being attended to,” she concludes.
