According to JB Marks Municipality spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite, residents may receive text messages or WhatsApp notifications that appear to be official municipal communication. These messages typically urge recipients to make an urgent payment to avoid having their services cut off.
“These messages often include a contact number, email address, and banking details. Please be cautious and verify any such communication before taking action,” stated Tshite.
“We strongly advise residents not to make any payments before verifying the authenticity of a request.”
