MPAC meeting rescheduled to allow for greater public participation

The purpose of the MPAC meeting is to allow public participation on the 2024/25 Annual Report.

The Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) Public Participation Meeting has been postponed to Thursday, March 19, due to the fact that information regarding the original meeting, scheduled to take place today (Thursday, March 12), had not been sufficiently disseminated.

The purpose of the MPAC meeting is to allow public participation on the 2024/25 Annual Report.  The Municipal Finance Management Act of 2003 in terms of section 129(3) requires Municipal Council to consider the Annual Report and provide an opportunity for public participation regarding comment and feedback.

“The chairperson realised that some community members were not aware of the scheduled meeting. It was therefore considered necessary to postpone the meeting in order to allow for proper communication and marketing so that residents from various areas are adequately informed and have the opportunity to attend,” stated JB Marks Municipality spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite.

“It would be counterproductive to proceed with a public participation meeting if the invitation did not reach a significant portion of the community.”

The Municipality apologises for any inconvenience caused by this change. All Members of Community and Stakeholders are encouraged to attend the meeting on the rescheduled date,” added Tshite.

The meeting will take place on Thursday, March 19 at 17:00 at the Madiba Banqueting Hall.
