The arrival of electric scooters on the Bult has sparked mixed reactions from the community after the new rental service was launched on Monday, July 27. The bright blue scooters, aimed at providing students with an affordable and environmentally friendly way to travel, have quickly become a common sight in the area.

While many students have embraced the new mode of transport, concerns have been raised by motorists and residents about the way some scooters are being ridden. Community members have alleged that some riders are ignoring traffic lights, cutting in front of vehicles and creating dangerous situations on busy roads.

The scooters have also become a hot topic on social media, with memes, jokes and videos of students riding them circulating widely since the launch.

Following the public reaction, Mooirivier Beskerming clarified that it does not operate or manage the scooter service. The organisation said it is only responsible for the security of the scooters, including 24-hour tracking, monitoring and patrols to help prevent vandalism, damage or theft.

Members of the public are encouraged to report reckless behaviour, misuse or vandalism involving the scooters by sending a WhatsApp, together with photos or videos if available, to the Mooirivier Beskerming Control Room on 076 367 5538. The information will assist in investigating reported incidents.
