The team that played in the 2015 Cricket World Cup semi-final against New Zealand still carry the scars of that defeat. Some players are not part of the set up currently while other newcomers have joined the fold – their main aim to get retribution for Auckland. The ghosts of World Cup agony can be diminished at Potchefstroom’s Senwes Park on 23 August 2015 when the Proteas play the Black Caps in the second of three one-day internationals (ODI)
South Africa will field a unique team of experienced players and up and coming players in the One-Day International series against New Zealand.

Likewise, the touring party from silver fern country will also play with an inexperienced team.

The beauty of this contest is that this gives a great opportunity for newcomers to stake their claim in an international jersey. Players such as David Wiese and Aaron Phangiso could well look for a permanent spot with regulars Morné Morkel and JP Duminy absent for the One Day International series.

New Zealand is also without the experienced Trent Boult and Tim Southee for the series. This will give the often overlooked Mitchell McClenaghan and the young and upcoming Ben Wheeler the chance to shine with the new ball.

The last time New Zealand played South Africa in a one-day international series, the visitors won 2-1. South Africa’s only victory came at Potchefstroom with a last-ball six from Ryan McLaren. History could well repeat itself with another Protea win.

Proteas ODI squad to face New Zealand:
AB de Villiers (c), Kyle Abbott, Hashim Amla, Farhaan Behardien, Faf du Plessis, Imran Tahir, David Miller, Aaron Phangiso, Vernon Philander, Kagiso Rabada,Rilee Rossouw, Dale Steyn, Morné van Wyk (wk), David Wiese

•Tickets are available at Ticketpros from R120 – R150. Students will pay R100
•Spectators can also bring their own food and drink to the event, but any alcohol is strictly prohibited
