1. A Spring in their step
The North West Netball ladies dominated the other provinces at the recent SPAR South African Netball Championships hosted in Margate last week. They were deserving champions, with all four competing squads taking home a trophy – the first time in the province’s history.

The green and red-clad ladies showed excellent team spirit throughout the competition and made sure that all their hard work paid off. Many of these ladies will now also represent the NWU-Pukke at this year’s Varsity Netball Championship, which starts this weekend. Expect the Pukke ladies to be on a high after their provincial victory at the nationals.

2. Krieketkoors tref Gimmies en Volkies
Die tradisionele krieketstryd wat Potchefstroom elke jaar in afwagting laat regop sit, gaan hierdie keer ‘n effense sombere toon hê. Volkies se Jack Pauw-seunskoshuis het Maandagaand groot skade in ‘n brand opgedoen en die meeste van dié krieketseuns het byna al hulle kosbare besittings verloor.

Dit plaas ekstra motivering in die krieketmanne se staal om hul ou vyand te verslaan, veral met die eerste- span wat op hulle tuisveld teen Gimmies te staan gaan kom. Gimmies gaan wel met groot hoop in die wedstryd in nadat hulle Rustenburg verlede naweek gemaklik geklop het. ‘n Titaniese stryd lê en wag tussen die twee groot krieketreuse.

3. Sunette Viljoen steeds tops
Sunette Viljoen het by die onlangse wêreld atletiekkampioenskappe in Beijing, China ‘n bronsmedalje in die spiesgooi vir vroue verower. Haar gooi van 67.69 meter was die langste gooi van haar loopbaan en het al haar verwagtinge oortref. Dit maak my trots om te sien hoe ons plaaslike atlete kan presteer.
