Jomo Cosmos suffered a third straight loss after they succumbed   2 – 0 to a superior Mamelodi Sundowns team spearheaded by double goal scorer, Keagan Dolly at Olën Park this past Sunday.

Dolly, a former Potchefstroom Boys High learner, made a welcome return to familiar surroundings with two well-taken goals. Downs’ yellow machine was too strong for Jomo Sono’s Cosmos as their clinical finishing and skills were too much for Cosmos who failed to take their chances – something that needs to occur to beat one of the best sides in the league.

The match was played at a slow pace in the beginning as teams needed to adjust to the searing heat on the day. Both sides had chances early on but Sundowns kept most of the possession in the first 20 minutes. The home fans were stunned in the 21st minute as Dolly headed home past Cosmos’ keeper, Sherwin Naicker which sent the Sundowns supporters into a gleeful frenzy.

Sundowns controlled most of the first half and could have easily gotten another goal but good defence from Cosmos’ Thato Lingwati and Frederick Nsabiyumva kept their opposition at bay.

The second half started with Cosmos gaining more opportunities as they used the width of the field to their advantage. Tebogo Makobela and Mxolisi Macuphu had a great game on the wings as they supplied titillating crosses but to no avail as Sundowns stood firm. Dolly wrapped up the match late in the second half as he put the game beyond doubt in stoppage time with a well worked finish that gave Naicker no chance.

Dolly celebrated both his goals with an audacious and entertaining cartwheel-somersault celebration that had Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane smiling and Sono frowning.
