A captain’s knock from Wihan Lubbe knocked the stuffing out of UWC as Pukke made it a hat-trick of wins with a superb seven wicket win at Senwes Park in a match shortened to 19 overs by rain.
Pukke captain, Lubbe, continued his scintillating form with the bat as he hit an unbeaten 75 with some tremendously powerful shots to all parts of the ground, much to the crowds delight.

The carnival atmosphere was the perfect setting for Pukke to thrive on as they kept control of the chase.

The chanting from the pro-Pukke crowd was almost as legendary as Pukke’s batting as runs were scored with consummate ease.

The most well supported match at the Varsity Cricket thus far, delivered the goods, especially if you supported Pukke.

Earlier on, Pukke bowled with bulls-eye accuracy as they had UWC in trouble early on as Jovuan van Wyngaardt took two wickets with great swing bowling.

Smith and Walbrug combined for a 75 run partnership to take the score to 90 before Lubbe struck to reduce UWC to 90/4. Pukke then put their foot on UWC’s throats for the remainder of the innings as they kept UWC to 122/7 after 19 overs.

Pukke continued the trend of starting well as Lubbe got stuck in early on. RuanHaasbroek contributed as well with a few quick fours.UWC though kept plugging away with Matthew Parks bowling a beauty to dislodge Haasbroek’s stumps.

Marques Ackerman joined Lubbe and together they knocked off the required runs with 5 overs to spare as Pukke finished off UWC with clinical accuracy.

“I really enjoyed the ball coming well onto the bat and it was great to make a good score,” said Lubbe, after his match winning knock.

Pukke will be hard to beat in their next game against UJ, but UJ are thriving on confidence after their win against Kovsies where they chased down 204 runs.
Do not miss this battle tomorrow morning at the Ibbies Oval at 10:00.
