Melanie Barnard of Amelia Care Centre in Potchefstroom is a World record holder and recipient of Best Female Athlete-Trisomy 21 award  at the 3rd Athletics World Championships for athletes with Down Syndrome, Bloemfontein 2015.

Melanie has hit the athletics world running.  This dynamic lady from Potchefstroom has won 3 gold medals, 1 silver and broke a World record at this event.  This year at the 2016 Trisome Games in Firenze, Italy, she hopes to continue her gold winning form. She is now going participate in javelin, shot put, discus, 4 x 100m relay and 4 x 400m relay.  “I am prepared to break more records and to collect gold medals in all my events,”

South Africa are the World Champions in Athletics, after winning 38 medals in total, 11 Gold, 19 Silver and 8 Bronze at the World Championships in Bloemfontein, November 2015.
