Most people would like to sit and relax when they reach the age of 60. The legendary Lekhu Molefe, a well-known runner in Potchefstroom from Ikageng, is not one of these people.
He is still as fit as a fiddle and, with 20 first-place finishes in 10-kilometre races, is still going strong.
The only problem is the lack of sponsors or coaches who are willing to assist Molefe in his passion.
‘I love running, but I need a sponsor and a coach to guide me with my running to be able to perform to the best of my ability,’ he said.
Molefe has also achieved numerous first places in 15-kilometre (3), 21-kilometre (4), 32-kilometre (3) and 42.2-kilometre (4) races, which gives him a grand total of 35 first place finishes. These achievements have led to him being ranked fourth in the province in his age category. This year, he finished the Comrades Marathon in his Berts Bricks Marathon Club kit in a very respectable time of 8:47:58.
‘I was 11th best in my age category, something that I am very proud of. I want to continue running as long as I can,’ he said with a big smile. Coaches or sponsors who are willing to assist can contact him at 079 560 9679.
