North West Cricket ready to fire with Dragons identity

Change is inevitable and, more often than not, it is good. This was definitely the case when North West Cricket unveiled their new Dragons brand to the general public at the union’s annual awards gala at the majestic Feather Hill venue on Thursday 20 April.
The union will, from now on, be known as the North West Dragons and this will replace the old North West Cricket lion logo as the new brand identity for North West Cricket.
This all makes logical sense as the provinces’ premier provincial cricket team has been playing under the Dragons name for many seasons. The main idea is to extend this brand to the whole province, at various age group levels. Every time a player represents his or her province, they will be playing under the auspices of the North West Dragons.
‘We needed an identity that will set us apart from all our competitors. When you look at our output, we should be classified as one of the big unions in SA cricket. We are competitive on the cricket field and one of the best administrative unions in the country. This logo will carry on the rich history of North West Cricket from the old Western Transvaal days into the future. The time is right to transform ourselves and I am very proud of this new logo,’ said Dr Oupa Nkagisang, the president of North West Cricket.
Aside from the brand launch, players, officials, coaches and umpires were also awarded for their outstanding achievements during the 2016/17 season. André Malan took the big prize as the North West Dragons Player of the Year for his valuable contributions with bat and ball. His brother, Janneman Malan, took home the title of Batsman of the Year, while Brady Barends received the Bowler of the Year award. North West Dragons Women’s coach, François van der Merwe took home the award for Coach of the Year after leading North West to the CSA National women’s cricket title.
Lizelle Lee took home the award for North West women’s Cricketer of the Year after an outstanding season, not only for her province but for the women’s Proteas as well.
