The programme started last year with the establishment of district academies in the NW Province and is funded by Sport & Recreation South Africa and supported by the NW Department Education and Sport Development. In 2016, these players were selected for the Leopards team during the u.15 Ikawe Week.  The four district academy u.15 squads were coached once a week for five months and participated in the National u.15 Ikawe Week in 2016.

Mr Maurice Robertson, the manager of the North West Academy of Sport and Mr Tinus Vermaak of the NW Department of Education and Sport Development responsible for high-performance sport and academies, are proud of the accomplishment of both Leopards Rugby and the players.
