The 2019 Great Brick Run will once again be one of the highlights on the running calendar with Bert’s Bricks Athletics Club looking to host their best event yet.
The Great Brick Run will take place this Saturday (19 January), starting at Potch Dorp Rugby Club, next to Olën Park in Potchefstroom.
One of the big drawcards and the uniqueness of this event is that athletes can run a distance of 21.1 kilometres with a brick in hand.
The first 100 athletes to complete 21.1 km with a brick will also receive a six-pack of beer.
The competition is divided into three categories with a 21.1 km, 10 km and 5 km fun run on the cards. This gives everyone an opportunity to take part, from the serious, experienced runners to those who want to enjoy a bit of fitness early on a Saturday morning.
Entry fees are as follows: 21.1km – R120, 10km – R70 and 5km – R40.
The 10 km and 21.1 km runs start at 06:30 with the 21.1 km walkers starting at 06:00. The 5 km fun run will begin at 06:40.
Bert’s Bricks Athletics Club has also announced on social media that, for the first time, there will be electronic timing at the event.
The timing will be by finishing time and the race times will be available immediately after the race.
Entries can be completed at Potch Dorp Rugby Club from 17:00 on Friday 18 January 2019 or on the morning of the race.
