NWU during the Varsity Hockey match at NWU Astro in Potchefstroom on May 12, 2019
It was a do or die for the NWU’s Varsity Hockey ladies yesterday evening at the NWU Astroturf and after a 2-0 victory against UJ, they can still continue to live on in the 2019 competition.
It was a solitary Carli Pretorius goal in the third quarter that secured the win for the ladies in purple in front of an ecstatic home crowd.
This was proverbial quarter-final clash as the losre would pack their bags, with the winner heading to the semi-finals that will take place today at the NWU Astroturf in Potch. NWU’s goalie, Mishka Ellis was absolutely superb in keeping UJ scoreless in a tense affair. Courtney du Preez took the player of the match award for her all-round effort on the night.
The NWU will now face traditional nemesis Kovsies in the semi-final today (Monday, 13 May) and it promises to be a humdinger of an encounter. Kovsies won the group match 4-1 but the tables can turn with a resurgent home ground and playoff nerves thrown into the equation.
The match will start at 18:45.
