The well-built local bodybuilder, Michael van Niekerk, competed in the IBFF World Cup in Johannesburg on Saturday, 7 September. He won the men’s physique tall, over 1,77-metre category against some of the best in the business.

To qualify, Van Niekerk had to perform provincially. He came first in the North West competition in the same category. This booked his place in the World Cup competition. He, once again, showed his tremendous physique against some top local and international contenders and walked away with first prize.

Van Niekerk will now compete in the World Championships in Slovenia later this year. He is one of 40 athletes from around the world who have been invited to this illustrious competition.

Van Niekerk is confident heading into the competition and summarised his mentality with the following statement: “Train your mind and the body will follow.”
