Potch Dorp and NWU perform in North West Premier League

The defending champions of the Premier League, Impala Precrete, got a rude awakening when the NWU-Pukke first team secured a comprehensive 166-run victory in Rustenburg.

Potch Dorp Cricket Club continued their winning ways in the North West Premier League with a fine five- wicket win against NWU Taurus at the Witrand Oval on Saturday, 5 October.

It was Tommie le Roux with an undefeated 57 (78) who steered Potch Dorp to victory. This was after Rohan Kruger (50 off 30) and Carlo Erasmus (59 off 76) gave Dorp a steady start in their chase of 265 for a win. Dorp’s batsmen had to be at their best after Taurus achieved a formidable score of 264/7 in their 50 overs after batting first.

Taurus made the most of a hot morning. Sebastian van Rooyen hit a well-compiled 91 (104) before Timothy Elphinstone sent him back to the dressing room, just nine runs short of a century.
Elphinstone with 2/31 was the top bowler for Potch Dorp on a day where the bat had the larger say for both teams. Shane Dadswell was also economical with ball, taking 1/22 in seven overs.

The defending champions of the Premier League, Impala Precrete, got a rude awakening when the NWU-Pukke first team secured a comprehensive 166-run victory in Rustenburg. The NWU bowlers were on fire as they dismissed Impala for a paltry 62 all out. Bantu Dandala claimed 5/14 as the NWU’s paceman brought the heat when defending their total of 228/9.

The lower-order batsman, Jesse-James Albanie with 44 was the top scorer for the NWU and illustrated the batting difficulty on the day. Some NWU batsmen got into the thirties but then lost their wickets just as a partnership seemed to be growing. But their batting struggles were soon forgotten as their bowlers gave the Potchefstroomers an earlier trip back home.
