Runners took to the gravel roads and breathed in picturesque landscapes during the 2020 Hartspad Bushrun on Saturday, 3 October.
Entrants from various age groups took part in three-, six- and nine- kilometre runs. It was business as usual for some of Potch’s top runners, with Jerry Motsau, Johan Stadler, Abrie Kruger, Robert de Villiers and Danielle Verster showing their class.

Motsau took first place in the nine-km senior male (20–39) cate-gory in a time of 30:27.6, ahead of NWU’s Robert de Villiers in 30:51.6. Tumisang Monnatlala took third in 31:34.2.
The well-known Nico Deerling from Promosa Athletics Club took first in the master male category in 39:40.
Verster of Potch Track Club once again showed her class in the women’s under-19 category in the nine-km race with a win in 38:20.8 ahead of the Van Deventer sisters, Bianca and Yolandi.
Shanley Koekemoer took first place in the senior women’s (20–39) category with a time of 37:20.2. Adele Broodryk came in second (37:50) with Rhode Boon in third, crossing the line with the clock at 39:13.8.
In the three-km run, Andy Munnik took first in the male u.19 category in a time of 10:55.4. Wihann Strydom and Egbert Palmer took second and third respectively.
Potch Track Club’s Stadler took first in the men’s (20–39) three-km category crossing the line at 11:22.8. Ingeborg Liebenberg took first in the women’s (20–39) race in a time of 16:30.9.
In the six-km category, Stephany Petro showed her class with a win in the women’s u.19 race in 25:50.9.
In the men’s six-km u.19 race, Abrie Kruger and Rico Leijenaar, both Potch Track Club athletes, engaged in a battle with the experienced Kruger outgunning his younger opponent. Kruger finished in a time of 21:57.1, beating Leijenaar, who clocked 22:26.
Reinard Reitsma won the six-km race in the men’s 20–39 age category in a commendable time of 23:27.1. In the veteran male section, Cor Leijenaar, Rico’s dad, also did his family proud with a win in 25:44.2. Lourens Swanepoel was the oldest finisher (70) in the six-km race with a time of 51:27.7.
