Frylinck and Muthusamy heroics take Dolphins to cup final

Frylinck hit a superb 62 (60) with Muthusamy contributing 57 (82) as they took the Dolphins from deep trouble to a crafty win.

The Dolphins can tip their caps to the experienced all rounder, Robbie Frylinck and the determined and resolute, Senuran Muthusamy, whose 112 run partnership has extended their stay in Potchefstroom to the final of the 2021 Momentum One Day Cup.

The first finalist of the 2021 Momentum One Day Cup had to sweat and work for it but in the end the Hollywoodbets Dolphins claimed a 3 wicket win in a low scoring encounter against the Cobras at Senwes Park today (Monday, 1 February).

Frylinck hit a superb 62 (60) with Muthusamy contributing 57 (82) as they took the Dolphins from deep trouble at 58/5 towards safer shores at 170/6. It was up to Dolphins captain Penelan Subrayen and fast bowler, Eathan Bosch to hit the winning runs with 45 balls to spare.

It was never the run rate that was in question as the Dolphins needed to score only 197 runs for victory. The problem though was the constant loss of wickets, especially that of in form batsman, Grant Roelofsen for 34 (57). Cape Cobras spinner, Imraan Manack (2/36) had a great time in the middle has he kept the pressure on.

Top fielding from the Cobras also resulted in the run out of Khaya Zondo and this gave the Cobras a fighting chance. Cool and calculated batting from Frylinck and Muthusamy though kept the Dolphins in with a chance – a chance that their steely determination did not give up.

Earlier, the Dolphins bowlers delivered a clinical performance to dismiss the Cobras for only 196. The downfall for the Cape side was their inability to built partnerships as too many batsman got in before getting out. Only Tony de Zorzi (61 off 71) could muster a score above 50. Muthusamy (2/34), Ottneil Baartman (3/15) and Robbie Frylinck (2/25) were the top bowlers for the Durbanites.

The final will take place this Thursday (4 February) at Senwes Park at 10:00.
