Tennis action once again heated up in Potchefstroom last week. South African Devin Badenhorst claimed the boys’ ITF Junior Grade 5 title and Russia’s Varvara Altukhova took the girls’ title at the NWU tennis courts.
The final matches took place on Friday, 19 March, on a hot morning where players not only had to prevail against their opponents but the sweltering conditions too.
Badenhorst beat fellow South African, Alexander Edley, 6–3, 3–6, 6–3 to win the trophy. Altukhova beat South African, Heike Janse van Vuuren, 6–3, 3–6, 7–5 in a tight final.
