North West Cricket hosted the 20/21 annual North West Cricket Awards at Senwes Park this past Wednesday, 19 May, with the province’s finest cricketers being honoured for their sterling performances in a difficult 20/21 season due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
North West Cricket’s Proteas star batter, Lizelle Lee, received a presidential award for her status as the number one ranked ODI batter in the world. Lee also recieved recognition alongside her fellow Proteas team mates, Anneke Bosch, Evodia Yekile, Masabata Klaas, Tazmin Brits and Tumi Sekhukhune.

Another star of the evening was young Nthabiseng Nini who walked away with the bowler of the year award for both the NW Dragons women and the NW Women’s Premier League. Wilmie Mostert won the batter and player of the year award. Tanja Lee was also named the player and batter of the year for the NW Dragons women.
Lesego Senokwane and Chad Classen shared the Dragons Player of the Year award for the men. AJ Jacobs (NWU) won the bowler of the year award in the Wohnen/Top Paints NW Club Premier League. Ruan van Tonder (NWU) was named the batsman of the year, with Van Zyl Smit taking home the player of the year award for his fine performances for Potch Dorp.
Bongiwe Gotyana was named as the umpire of the year, whilst Mpumi Ndhlovu took home the scorer of the year award.
