SA medal rush for KFA Potch kickboxers

Luan Coetzee (20) was one of the top performers, winning three gold medals in the under 74 kg category in semi contact, light contact and kick light respectively.

The talented kickboxers from KFA Martial Arts Potchefstroom won a total of 20 medals at the 2021 South African Kickboxing Association (SAKA) championships at Zwartkop Valhalla in Pretoria from 29 to 31 October.

Luan Coetzee (20) was one of the top performers, winning three gold medals in the under 74 kg category in semi contact, light contact and kick light respectively. He claimed the reigns as SA champion in his division.

Ten other kickboxers from KFA Potchefstroom, under the tutelage of Shihan Johan van der Schyff also impressed during the championships, coming back with medals around their necks.

Leoneze Liebenberg (14) won a bronze (semi) and silver (light), Logan Richards (12) won two bronze medals in light contact and kick light, with his brother, Keagan (9), winning silver in kick light and bronze in the light contact category.

Jaydon Snyman (13) also competed in NW colours but he couldn’t bag a medal against stiff opposition.

Eleven-year-old Albert Joubert took silver in the kick light category, with Franco Liebenberg (10) winning a gold (kick light), silver (light contact) and bronze (points) medal.

Ryno van den Berg (9) won silver in light continuous and bronze in the points category. Ashton Dineen (17) won silver in the points category with Theresho Molepo taking two silver (light and kick light) and one bronze (semi points).

Eduan Naudé (27) won silver in the points category in his division. “I am proud of everyone who showed character in the champion-ships. They showed their talent throughout the championships,” stated Van der Schyff, who has been coaching for the past 11 years.

The KFA Potchefstroom group represented North West during the championships and certainly made the province proud, considering that they only competed in three tournaments before the SA championships.
