Queen’s Baton Relay makes its way to Potch

The NWU had the privilege to showcase the campus, athletes and alumni who have a history with the Commonwealth Games during this baton relay. 

The Commonwealth Games Baton Relay found its way to Potchefstroom at the North West University this past week on Thursday, 9 December.
The Queens Baton Relay is an event that started on 7 October at Buckingham Palace with Her Majesty the Queen, placing her message to the Commonwealth nations into the Baton. The Baton will take a 294-day journey across the Commonwealth to 72 nations during this period.
The NWU had the privilege to showcase the campus, athletes and alumni who have a history with the Commonwealth Games during this baton relay.
Stories were shared on the NWU’s involvement with the Commonwealth Games in the past as well as its continued good standing with the Commonwealth.
Former athletes such as 2002 Commonwealth Games gold medalist, Shaun Bownes, was also a guest speaker at the event.
