The North West Flames has finally picked up their first two victories of the 2022 Telkom Netball League competition.

The North West Flames has finally picked up their first two victories of the 2022 Telkom Netball League competition.

The Flames completed two close wins against the Kingdom Stars (54-49) and the Free State Crinums (68-66) this past weekend from 3-5 June at the Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria.

Head coach, Elsunet du Plessis, was thrilled and relieved to finally pick up wins after a difficult start to the season.

“The whole team is relieved to pick up the win. These victories will give us more motivation for the upcoming games ahead. We worked really hard to get these wins,” stated Du Plessis.

The Flames played gutsy netball and kept working hard as a team to complete the win, especially during a tense contest against the Crinums.

“We were in front against the Crinums and I just told the girls to keep fighting for each other on the court and to not let it slip. Our teamwork was a major reason for our success,” mentioned Du Plessis.

Goal shooter, Elmeré van der Berg, has profited the most from the Flames team effort, shooting in regular goals and taking advantage of chances in the circle. Lucy Strydom (goal attack) and Michelle Geduld (centre) as well as Nicolene van Heerden in defence has been resolute.

“Truly, I can’t single out specific players. It’s been a true team effort,” added Du Plessis.
