Local netball stars win SA u.19 championship

Most matches ended with Dr. KK winning by 25 – 40 points on average.

It is official!

The award for best u.19 netball team in South Africa goes to the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda (Dr. KK) district after they won the Telkom Netball SA u.19 A-division title in resounding fashion with a 40-10 victory in the final against the Cape Winelands today (Friday, 15 July).

Tracey Magwebu’s side was one of the favourites from the start after completing big wins in the first four days of competition.

The smallest points difference in the entire tournament was their group match against Mangaung which they won by 35-14. Most matches ended with Dr. KK winning by 25 – 40 points on average.

The Dr. KK squad was made up of North West University (NWU) players who shined on the national stage. Sunel Smit, a former Potch Gimmie, was named as the overall player of the tournament. Favour Umeh won the best defender award.

Dr. KK players, Jomarie Lubbe, JanaMarie Pretorius, Sunel Smit, Sanmarie Visser, Tlotlang Mokomela, Favour Umeh and Anzel Marais was also included in the SA u.19 squad.

“We players stuck to our game plan, they were consistent and played for each other,” stated Dr. KK u,19 head coach, Tracey Magwebu.

This win definitely bodes well for the future of netball in the district and province at large.

Thursday, 14 July

Semi Finals:

Tshwane vs Dr. KK: 20-50

Friday, 15 July

Final:

Cape Winelands vs Dr KK: 10-40.
