The 2022 Spar SA Netball Championships started with a bang today (Monday, 8 August) on the NWU netball courts at the Fanie du Toit Sport Grounds.
Hosts, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, took on tournament favourites Tshwane and ultimately ended on the losing side with the match ending 36-32 in favour of the Pretoria-based side.

Dr. Kenneth Kaunda were trailing for most of the match and put in a better second half performance with a few tactical switches.
Martiné Jordaan was switched from goal keeper to goal defence, and that limited Tshwane’s freedom in on the court. Nicolene van Heerden took over the goal keeper position for the final quarter. In combination they tried to stop Tshwane’s attack from increasing their lead.
Sunel Smit (goal shooter) and Lucy Strydom (goal attack) tried their best, but Tshwane’s defence spearheaded by Jeanté Strydom was on top form.
Dr. KK play their next match against Mangaung tomorrow (Tuesday, 9 August) in a women’s day clash at 12:15.
