Runners can start saving Saturday, 29 October, on their calendar as the second edition of Letsgo Potch returns with a bang.

Letsgo Potch is a community-based road race which hosted its inaugural event to high acclaim in 2021.  This year, the organisers are promising an even bigger and better event with a new marathon distance of 42.2 kilometer added to the mix.

Letsgo Potch, presented by OppiKampus Student Accommodation, is an initiative of Shofar Church Potchefstroom (9 Gerrit Dekker Street) to give the Potchefstroom community a running event to be proud of.

The race will start at Potchefstroom Gimnasium’s cricket oval, with various routes depending on the distance.

Four races (5km Fun Run and ACNW official 10km, 21.1km and 42.2km) will take place in this year’s edition of Letsgo Potch.

“This is a race for the community. We have numerous local sponsors who joined this initiative. The idea is to create a fun and interactive event for all runners from the fun run all way to the marathon, which will also act as a Comrades qualifier,” added Christo Louw, senior pastor at Shofar Potchefstroom.

This year there will also be an event hub with different food stalls at the start and finish line to create a pre and post-race atmosphere. There will also be a DJ, whilst the well-known, Thabo Molete will act as MC.

One of the organisers of the race, Ruben Gouws, also states that the race will once again be of a high standard with a couple of changes this year to improve on last year’s edition.

“Pre-entries will close two weeks before the race. The Traffic Department and Mooirivirer Bekerming will also assist with patrolling the route to ensure  a safe racing experience. Frequent water points, as well as finishers medals will also once again be of high standard,” added Gouws.

Theo Eiendomme, Mooirivier Beskerming and Mega Theron have already joined as sponsors. There is space for three more sponsors this year.
