The inaugural FIH Men’s Hockey Nations Cup is set to take centre stage at the North West University Astroturf from 28 November-4 December in what promises to be a spectacular top quality hockey festival.
The FIH Hockey Nations Cup is a tournament that will feature eight top nations who will battle it out for promotion to the Hockey Pro League for the 2023/24 season. The winners of the competition will gain automatic promotion to this lucrative league, so a lot will be on the line for these eight nations in Potchefstroom.
South Africa will have home advantage in this tournament where they will face Pakistan, France and Ireland in group A. Group B consists of Asian countries, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia as well as Canada.

The winner and runner up will qualify for the semi-finals before a winner will be decided in the final on Sunday, 4 December.
This will be the third major FIH hockey tournament to be hosted in Potchefstroom this year after the Pro League and Women’s Junior World Cup was also hosted to critical acclaim. The hosting of the Men’s Hockey Nations Cup is just another feather in the NWU’s cap.
“We as NWU Sport want to put out a product that is second to none and I believe who have fantastic world class facilities a fantastic Local organising committee to showcase what we are capable of. We have showed with previous FIH Hockey events that we can host a successful tournament and we believe the FIH Nations Cup will be no different,” stated NWU hockey director, Shaun Hulley.
According to Hulley, the tournament presents a massive opportunity for NWU Hockey and Potchefstroom in general.
“Top international hockey will be played during the week. There will be a lot of excitement and this time we can have fans as well. It is a fantastic opportunity for youngsters to come and watch the games live. A number of teams will also play in the World Cup too, so there will be quality hockey on display,” he added.
