Potch cyclists take podiums at Emperors Palace Road Classic

Ryno Schutte took second place in the junior men's section and Johan Trotzky took third in the men's elite race.

Two Potch cyclists, Ryno Schutte and Johan Trotzky, showed their class in the Emperors Palace Road Classic on Sunday, 26 March.

Schutte took second place in the junior men’s section and Trotzky took third in the men’s elite race. This race, held for the 14th time, drew about 3000 cyclists with some of South Africa’s best cyclists competing in either a 98km or 48km route on a relatively flat course on the roads of Ekurhuleni.

Schutte battled against Matthew Snyman (Randburg) and Daniel Wiesner (Vanderbijlpark) for the top spot. Snyman won the 98km race in a time of 2:10:57 with Schutte close behind in 2:11:00 and Wiesner third in 2:11:05.

Trotzky took a deserved third place after going toe to toe with Gustav Basson and Rohan du Plooy.
