Athletes put on good show at league meeting

Even though it was not a usual full program of athletics action, there were still some highlights on a windy day.

Athletics Central North West (ACNW) hosted a special late-season league meeting on Saturday, 13 May at the NWU McArthur stadium.

Even though it was not a usual full program of athletics action, there were still some highlights on a windy day. Athletes in attendance had a chance to go through the paces once again in front of a small group of supporters and coaches in attendance.

Lone Madzimulle of Botswana was one top form getting the win in the 100m race in a time 12.08 seconds in windy conditions.

Thapelo Monaiwa, also from Botswana, took gold in the men’s 100m race in 10.17 seconds.

Lebitso Mokorofo (Botswana) won the women’s 200m race in a steady time of 24.51 in a field filled with fellow Botswana runners.

The Botswana stranglehold was broken in the men’s 200m race when Adrian Swart took victory in a time of 20.32 seconds.

Boitumelo Masilo of Potch Track Club also showcased his talent in the men’s 800m race taking victory in a time of 1:46.31.

On the field, the NWU’s usual suspects ended their season with some solid performances. Ryan Williams won the men’s discus event with a throw of 58.01. Alan Cumming took first in the men’s hammer with a heave of 66.00m and Armand Willemse threw just under the 70m mark in the men’s javelin (67.34m).
