SA started their Super Six campaign in the best way possible with a clinical 9 wicket demolition job of Zimbabwe at the J.B. Marks Oval on Wednesday, 31 January.
Left-arm pace bowler, Kwena Maphaka, was at the forefront of the impressive performance
picking up 5/34. This was Maphaka’s second five-wicket haul of the 2024 ICC u.19 Cricket World Cup.
Steve Stolk and Lhuan-dre Pretorius have both been solid at the top of the order for the SA u.19 team. Pretorius scored his first 50 of the World Cup against Zimbabwe.
South Africa bowled their neighbours out for 102 before steamrolling to the target of 103
with 219 balls left. Tristan Luus also took 3/25 for the Proteas.
Lhuan-dre Pretorius scored his first half-century of the competition
with a decisive 53 (39 balls). Steve Stolk also added 37 (28 balls) in a 86-run partnership for the opening wicket.
Learners from Laerskool Mooirivier attended the match to support former old boy, Lhuan-dre Pretorius.
South Africa are currently on four points ahead of the West Indies on net-run rate.
