SA u.19’s book World Cup semi-final spot

Kwena Maphaka (6/21) and Lhuan-dré Pretorius (71 off 77 balls) played a key part in the SA u.19's win against Sri-Lanka.

South Africa claimed a comprehensive 119 run win in their Super Six match against Sri Lanka at the J.B. Marks Oval today (Friday, 2 February).

The Proteas’ youngsters bowled Sri Lanka out for 113 after they made 232/8 with the bat.

Kwena Maphaka took 6/21 with the ball.

Kwena Maphaka picked up his third 5-wicket haul of the tournament taking a career best 6/21 to dismantle Sri Lanka.

Riley Norton also joined the party picking up 4/28 as the duo ripped the Sri Lanka batting line-up apart.

SA has earlier started brightly with the bat and looked on course for a big total as openers, Steve Stolk (22 off 17 balls) and Lhuan-dré Pretorius (71 off 77 balls) put on another 50-run partnership.

Pretorius made batting look easy as he played some superb shots (10 fours) in his knock.

He was unfortunately run-out at the non-striker’s end with the score of 115. That started a mini-collapse as the SA middle order succumbed to spin and soon found themselves on 133/6.

Reyner la Grange, Kayla Du Pisani and Cara la Grange

Norton (41* off 69 balls) and Romashan Pillay (27 off 53 balls) steadied the ship with a 49-run partnership.

Supun Waduge (2/28) and Vishwa Lahiru (2/44) were the pick of Sri Lanka’s spinners.

SA will now face India in the semi-final next week at Willowmoore Park in Benoni.
