The Proteas Women’s journey towards the upcoming 2026 T20 Women’s World Cup start in earnest today (Tuesday, February 10) with their T20 International series opener against Pakistan at the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom.

The Proteas have been preparing intensely for the first match of this three match series since arriving in Potch on Thursday (February 5).

Proteas Women captain, Laura Wolvaardt, is confident that her team will be up for the challenge, especially in Potch where they are well supported.

“It’s always fun playing here in Potch. I love it here as it is always high-scoring and is always a great atmosphere. I am excited to see a lot of people here.”

Wolvaardt is also confident that the team will continue playing brave cricket throughout the series, especially in light of it being a World Cup year.

“Our preparation has been awesome. We have put in some good training sessions and the hard yards. The World Cup is massive for us this year so any T20 game is awesome preparation for that. A series win would be nice for us,” said Wolvaardt.

One aspect that has been really good for the Proteas Women has been the mix of youth and experience in the squad.

“Kayla (Reyneke) and (Karabo) Meso are very talented. It’s awesome to have experienced players such as Marizanne Kapp in the side to help younger players out where they can.”

Pakistan Women’s captain, Fatima Sana Khan, believes that her team will do well if they play an aggressive and fearless brand of cricket.

The match against the Pakistan will start at 18:00 under lights at the JB Marks Oval. Gates open at 16:00.

Tickets are available at Ticketpro and at the gate.
