Nini and Reddy send Dragons Women to comfortable wins

Nthabiseng Nini, or "Stix" as she is known in cricket circles, was once again one of the key bowlers for the Dragons Women.

The North-West Dragons Women picked up crucial victories in their CSA Pro50 and Pro20 matches against the SWD Garden Route Badgers at the JB Marks Oval this past weekend.

A 132-run opening partnership between Deidré van Rensburg (68 from 125 balls) and Verunissa Reddy (67 from 84 balls) set the tone for a 7-wicket win in the Pro50 encounter on Saturday, February 21.

The Dragons Women chased down SWD’s total of 192/8 with 16 balls to spare. Dragons captain, Jané Winster (4), and Mignon du Preez (13) took the Dragons over the line.

The platform was set for the Dragons thanks to the bowling efforts of Nthabiseng Nini (3/23) from nine overs and Katlego Setlhodi (1/34) from nine overs.

Alyssa Erxleben (3/33) from nine overs cleaned up the lower order. The only SWD batter to show resistance was Mieke de Ridder who hit a glorious 109 (140 balls).

The Dragons repeated their 50 over success with an even more comprehensive 8-wicket Pro20 victory against SWD. Nini (4/21) and Setlhodi (3/23) were the stars for the Dragons with the ball as SWD could only manage 119 all out.

The former Proteas star, Du Preez, showed her class with an unbeaten 52 (39 balls) to take the Dragons to the win.Lizri de Villiers with 48 (36 balls) also contributed to the victory in an 89-run partnership for the second wicket with Du Preez.

The Dragons Women head to Cape Town next weekend to face Western Province in the last match of the season.
