Municipality yet to respond to water meter leak since 2022 – resident
Greenhills resident reveals his two-year battle with a water meter leak.

While parts of town are currently facing water supply limitations, one home owner in Greenhills has to stop water from flooding his home.
Mafaleng Mokoena claims he has been struggling with a water meter leak since 2022.
During an interview with the Herald, he further stated that he had reported the matter various times without any success.

According to Mokoena, it never should have gotten to this point where water enters his house.
He added that he has since had to dig a hole near the water meter to stop the water from flowing into his house.
However, the hole doesn’t even help anymore as it’s constantly overflowing. The water has now reached his garage and he fears the ground might shift and damage his property.

“I even tried to lead the water away from the garage by connecting a pipe and redirecting the water to a makeshift pond I made in the back yard. This doesn’t help either.”
In addition, a tree fell over due to the ground being too wet.

“The water flows non-stop. The only time it does stop is when the municipality switches off the water at night.”
He noted when the water is turned on it sprays out of the water meter again.

“This is just a waste of water and damaging the property.”

Municipal spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa has since commented that, “Several water leaks have been reported and the municipality is currently working on fixing all the leaks experienced by the community.”
