Plea deal nears in case of teen killed in Seshego drag race
A plea deal is being finalised in the case of Katlego Mosoma, accused of fatally running over Dimpho Monareng during a drag race in Seshego in 2023.
POLOKWANE – Victim support group Lentswe Laka Foundation (LLF) has expressed satisfaction with the recent progress in the culpable homicide case involving Katlego Mosoma.
Mosoma is accused of fatally running over 15-year-old Dimpho Monareng during a drag race in zone 4 in Seshego, in December 2023.

Monareng, a learner at Bokamoso Senior Secondary School, died in the incident.
Mosoma, then 20 years old, was said to have been the driver of the bakkie that struck the teenager.
Although he was accompanied by a friend at the time, Mosoma alone was arrested and charged.
LLF confirmed that they participated in a meeting where a plea agreement was reached under Section 105A of the Criminal Procedure Act.
This section allows the accused to plead guilty to specific charges in exchange for a predetermined sentence, subject to court approval.

The process aims to speed up proceedings while delivering justice in a way acceptable to all parties. The girl’s mother has consented to the plea deal.
During Mosoma’s most recent appearance in the Polokwane Regional Court last week, the defence confirmed it was finalising the plea agreement with the senior public prosecutor and requested a postponement to June 20.
The court, however, noted that the deal remains subject to the presiding magistrate’s assessment of its terms.
LLF’s Maletsema Raletsema said that while the legal process has advanced satisfactorily, the foundation is also calling for greater government accountability.
LLF urged the creation of a road safety awareness campaign in memory of Dimpho and others who have lost their lives to reckless driving.
