Polokwane Oval racing drivers took to the track throughout the year not only to win first place during respective meetings, but also to collect enough points at each race in order to be announced overall winner for the year in each class.
The top three drivers in each class were announced last Friday during the club’s year end function.
In the Ninja Midget class Jean-Marie Swartz and JC Oosthuizen took the overall first and second place respectively while the third position was shared by siblings Jayden, Tinieka and D’iante Bent.
The Rookies siblings Roean and Roeline van Breda gave each other a hard time on the track throughout the year but it was Roean who collected the most points. Eric Enslin took third place.
Willie Blignaut took no chances forfeiting his points and was awarded as top driver in the Stockrods followed by Hennie de Koker and Nico Grebe.
Competition in the 1660 and 2,1 litre Modified class is always packed with adrenaline rushing action. WF Weideman, Dylan Bosch and Sybrand Thysse took home the trophies in the 1660 class while top drivers in the 2,1 litre Modified class were Roelof van Breda, Johnny Durant and Desmond Bosch.
Allas Pienaar performed well throughout the year, which resulted in him being awarded as top Hotrods driver. André Pienaar came second with Stephan Weideman third.
In the growing and more popular V8 Sprints class, Kenny Gouws took the winning trophy followed by André Horn and Daleen McCrudden.
The awards were topped with the trophy for best overall winner with the most club points, which went to Roelof van Breda. Allas Pienaar also took home the trophy for the best prepared and best looked after car.
Polokwane Oval Promoter, Stephan Weideman congratulated all recipients. “It was a tough year but still Polokwane Oval succeeded in offering the public some exciting racing. Thanks to everyone who spent a lot of money and time in keeping the club alive,” he said.
