Baroka Football Club’s latest success, a 2-0 triumph over Amazulu Football Club sees them boasting a four point lead from Mbombela United who are on the second position with 27 points.
Crowd favourite Tshepo Matete scored the second goal for the Baroka at old Peter Mokaba Stadium following an own goal by Amazulu goalkeeper Sage Stevens in the second half of the match.
The feat sees the Ga-Mphahlele based outfit on top of the league with 31 points after 14 matches.
Despite their superb form in the National First Division (NFD) the team’ Technical Director Oupa Kgoadi has warned his team against complacency. “We are only left with 16 matches and we need to come out with maximum points out of those matches. We are very much aware of the four point gap and that on its own is a huge challenge for us because it says to us that we need to do more and double our efforts in every match,” Kgoadi said.
He also congratulated their new recruit Tshepo Matete who scored on his debut on Saturday.
Unlike many players Matete, a midfielder, has never played in a professional setup let alone lower league football, but has shown off his skills on YouTube.
He was spotted by club scouts during the Maimane Phiri Tournament in Daveyton in June last year. “He is a talented football player and we are glad that he scored in his debut. we believe he will add value to the team,” Kgaodi said.
