The first oval racing for the year is promised to be an exciting race when Polokwane Oval will host the second leg of the United Kingdom (UK) vs. South Africa (SA) Tour at the local oval race track on 6 February.
The first leg is scheduled to take place at Mahem Race Track in Pretoria on 30 January and the third leg in Richards Bay on 2 May.
According to Polokwane Oval Promoter Stephan Weideman the UK team will consist of six drivers and the SA team seven.
“Both teams have the best drivers to offer in the Pinto class. This will make the line-up the best the country have seen in many years. Added to the event is a new tour to kick off in SA for the Hotrods with rotary engines and a couple of very fast piston powered cars as well. Entries for this class have already reach twenty with top names in this facet such as Neville Loosemore, Rudy Myburg, Nico Vorster, Frans Joubert and a big possibility of Jody Viana on the cards,” Weideman said.
He added that a highlight of the year is also the return of several favourite drivers to the Hotrod class. “Some formal drivers have already indicated that they have built new cars for their return to the track. This will become a super popular class and no doubt big companies would get involved with sponsorships when 20 plus of these machines grace the ovals of the country,” Weideman said.
Interested parties can visit the National Hotrods South Africa facebook page for more information.
The regular racing classes will still be in action and big exhilarating competition can be expected in the 2.0-litre Modified, 1660, Stockrods, Sprints and Rookies classes. Also on the track is the popular Ninja Midgets which grow in numbers every race.
Limited parking is available around the track and will cost R100 per vehicle. Entry costs R60 per adult and R20 for children under 12 years. Food and beverages are for sale on the premises. Gates open early afternoon with the qualifying starting at 16:00.
