With only 12 matches to go before the National First Division (NFD) comes to an anticipated exciting end Baroka Owner Khurishi Mphahlele is confident that his team will gain automatic promotion to the Premier Soccer League.
Since the beginning of the NFD season the team has lost one out of 18 enthralling matches.
The Ga Mphahlele based outfit is currently leading the pack with 39 points and four points clear ahead of the second placed Witbank Spurs.
Mphahlele attributes the success of the team to having a manageable young and determined squad and a good coach. “No team will stop us now.
We played tough matches but we managed to win most of them. We have got a youthful squad and their strength is that they are determined and hungry for success. I am proud of them. They have done well for team and they are making the fans and management proud. The coach has brought a breath of fresh air in the team. The team is playing attractive football whereas with the previous coach it was more of direct and kicking type football,” Mphahlele said.
He also mentioned that if the club gets promoted to the elite it will bring more economic spinoffs to the province.
“Obviously there will be more matches in the city and we will make money from the gate takings and we will also sell our merchandise to locals and also local vendors will also benefit. We will also be able to develop our training facilities in Ga Mphahlele because that is where the team is based,” Mphahlele said.
He also added that he is happy that since the establishment of the team he was able to produce players who made it to some of the top teams in the Premier Soccer League.
“We have produced the likes of Lentshane Phalane now in Bloemfontein Celtic and Gift Motupa who is now Orlando Pirates and also part of the South African u.23 Olympics team. We are a team that produce unknown youngsters. We give them a platform to shine and showcase their talent and we are happy to have given them that opportunity and their success will inspire the current crop of players,” Mphahlele said.
