The final game of the Limpopo Impala Cricket premier league played in Tzaneen on Sunday saw local team Eagles and Hornbills Cricket Club from Tzaneen competing for first place.
According to Impala Cricket Club Cricket and Facilities Coordinator Sedibu Mohlaba only two out of the four games for the first three positions on the podium were played due to heavy rains across the province over the weekend.
“The table toppers Hornbills and Eagles were both eager for a win. Hornbills went into the game needing one point to reclaim the premier league title from Eagles after two years while Eagles needed to win with a bonus point to retain the title and make it three years in a row,” Mohlaba said.
Hornbills posted 248 runs in 38 overs. The overs were reduced due to a late start. Eagles fought hard but Hornbills bowled all the Eagles out for 219, securing a win by 29 runs.
“Hornbills had a close to flawless season winning 11 of the 12 games played drawing one. Two of their games got rained out meaning they went unbeaten for the season therefore being crowned the 2015/16 Limpopo Impala Cricket premier league champions,” Mohlaba said. Eagles settled for second place overall while Seshego Cricket Club finished third in the league.
