Eighteen Limpopo municipalities participate in inter municipal games

The Southern Africa Inter Municipal Sport Association (Saimsa) Games took place in North-West Province recently and teams from 48 municipalities, of which 18 were from Limpopo, participated. The Southern Africa Inter Municipal Sport Association (Saimsa) Games took place in North-West Province recently and teams from 48 municipalities, of which 18 were from Limpopo, participated.
Officials from Capricorn, Vhembe, Mopani and Sekhukhune district municipalities and Polokwane, Blouberg, Molemole, Lepelle-Nkumpi, Makhado, Musina, Greater Tzaneen, Ba-Phalaborwa, Greater Letaba, Greater Giyani, Elias Motsoaledi, Ephraim Mogale, Makhuduthamaga and Mogalakwena municipalities enjoyed the hospitality of Mahikeng Municipality for a week of fun and games.
Limpopo municipalities are members of Inter Municipal Sport of South Africa (Imssa) and participants played soccer, netball, volleyball, snooker, darts, table tennis, tennis, lawn tennis and golf and could also take part in fishing as well as a 5 and 10 km fun run.
The team from Musina Municipality ended in the first place in the 5 km female fun run while the teams from Capricorn District, Polo­kwane and Musina municipalities came first, second and third respectively in the 5 km male fun run. Ba-Phalaborwa and Greater Tzaneen Municipalities came first and third respectively in the fishing competition and the female team of Blouberg Municipality ended third in the volleyball matches. Capricorn District Municipality’s soccer veterans ended second in their code and the male volleyball team of Greater Tzaneen Municipality ended third.
Jomo Mashamaite, President of Imssa, told Polokwane Observer that he was privileged to join his colleagues of Capricorn District Municipality at the event. “The aim of the games is to promote, advance, administer, coordinate and generally encourage sport participation by municipal employees and councillors and to promote a healthy lifestyle for and amongst municipal employees and employers. It encourages networking and building relationships with fellow colleagues of different levels,” Mashamaite said and added that the games foster good working relations with institutions such as the South African Local Government Association and other role players operating within the country and internationally. “It promotes democratic and accountable governance, non-racialism and non-sexism in its practices without excluding persons with disabilities,” Mashamaite said.
