Limpopo Sports School of Excellence showcased and put to the test soccer equipment to the value of R101 324, bought with funding received from the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) at Ladanna Sports fields last Thursday.
This follows the NLC’s approval of an application for funding made by the school in June last year. The equipment includes training markers, cones, poles, soccer balls and full soccer kit to be utilised by the school’s u.14, u.15, u.17 and u.21 teams.
Hendrick Mukwevho, founder of the school said he was grateful to finally get funding from NLC after applying for years with no success. “We were not confident that we would get the funding because of our previous experience, but we are happy that we finally got it,” Mukwevho said.
He also added that the new equipment will create an enabling environment for players to thrive. “The ultimate goal is to build the players’ confidence and team spirit. Therefore, the equipment will benefit the players to spend fun time at the field and also enjoy the code,” Mukwevho said.
“Although we had balls and kits for all ages they were not enough. We needed more equipment to be able to cater for all the players at the school.”
The school is based in Ladanna and accommodates 100 aspiring professional soccer players from different parts of the province.
Some of its alumni include Tiyani Mabunda, Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder and Edward Mokoatedi currently playing for Black Leopards Football Club.
By the time of going to press representatives from NLC were not available for comment.
