Despite relegation looming large for Polokwane City Football Club following their failure collect maximum points against Baroka Football Club in their 21st fixture of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) at Peter Mokaba Stadium last Saturday, head coach Bernard Molekwa is adamant that his team won’t get demoted.
The two teams played to a 1-1 draw leaving Polokwane City Football rooted in 14th position of the league, with a meagre 23 points after 21 matches.
Molekwa, who has managed to win only four matches from 21 fixtures, emphatically said the team won’t be relegated this season. “We are not thinking about relegation. We just want to do well in the last remaining matches of the League. We are left with nine matches and those matches are equivalent to 27 points. Add 27 points to 23 and you get 47 points which will take us to the top 8 bracket.
“What we can assure our supporters and the people of this province of is that we will fight for those points and remain in the PSL. We are playing well and we are just unlucky,” Molekwa said.
He also mentioned that preparations are at advanced stage for their match against Golden Arrows scheduled for old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday. In their opening fixture of the league the two teams played to a 3-3 draw at Princes Magogo Stadium in Durban in August last year. “They are a tough side with excellent players and a good technical team. We have prepared well for them and will walk away with three points,” Molekwa predicted.
