Baroka Football Club will be eager to claim the scalps of the mighty Kaizer Chiefs when the two meet at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth in the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup.
The Ga-Mphahelele based outfit has never won the cup while Kaizer Chiefs won the R7 million title in 2013 under the tutelage of Stuart Baxter who is currently at the helm of the national soccer team.
Chief Executive Officer, Morgan Mammilla said they have all the arsenal to defeat Kaizer Chiefs. “A victory against Chiefs will be sweet and it will boost our morale. We want to win the Cup and they are standing in our way. We have to eliminate them and proceed to the semi-finals and eventually the finals,” Mammilla said.
He also reiterated that they have prepared well for this year’s edition and they can’t afford to lose any match of the cup.
“We want a trophy this season and this is one of the trophies we have earmarked. We missed it on several occasions. In 2011, we reached the semi-finals but we were eliminated by Black Leopards Football Club. In 2016, we came short in the quarterfinals at the hands of Super Sport United. I think we have got enough experience to go all the way, again we are playing a big team in South Africa and that on its own is an extra motivation to the players,” Mammilla said.
He also mentioned that MacDonald Makhubedu will be in charge of the team on Saturday.
Makhubedu took over from Kgoloko Thobejane who was fired by the club a fortnight ago.
“There is no need to hire someone now. Makhubedu has done well since taking over the club, he has won three matches and drew three from the six matches. We are happy with his performance thus far and we are hopeful that he will do well in other matches,” explained Mammilla.
